Collection 02 — Climate

Climate Systems

Ductless systems, specified by room.

A mini-split is a small reversible refrigeration circuit in two parts: an outdoor condenser and one or more indoor air handlers, joined by refrigerant line sets. The number of handlers is the number of zones — rooms that can hold different temperatures at the same time. Capacity is measured in BTU, efficiency in SEER2 for cooling and HSPF2 for heating, and neither figure means much without a load calculation for the room itself.

The format follows the architecture. A wall-mounted head is the fastest to install and the simplest to service. A ceiling cassette returns air in four directions and suits rooms with a suspended or cut ceiling. A concealed ducted unit hides above a ceiling or in an attic and serves rooms that cannot give up wall space. All three are heat-pump ready, and all three need a licensed installer, a clear route for the line set, a condensate drain, and a dedicated electrical supply.

A short guide

A short guide to ductless systems

  1. Count rooms, then windows

BTU charts are a starting point. A west-facing room with a glass wall is not the same load as a shaded bedroom of equal size; specify from a real load calculation.

  2. Pick the format before the model

Wall-mounted, cassette and concealed ducted units fail in different rooms. The ceiling and the wall decide more than the efficiency figure does.

  3. Budget the installation

Line sets, condensate, electrical work and lift access are part of the system cost. A quote that excludes them is not yet a quote.
