Cove 27K Tri-Zone Cassette

Three rooms, one ceiling line.

A ceiling cassette replaces the wall head with a square panel set flush into the ceiling and returns air in four directions instead of one. This tri-zone system uses three indoor cassettes — 9K, 9K and 12K — on a 27,000 BTU condenser, covering up to 1,350 square feet with an independent setpoint for each room. At 26.5 SEER2 it is the most efficient system in the collection, and it operates as a heat pump down to -22°F. The cassette suits rooms with a suspended or cut ceiling and a void deep enough to take the unit and its condensate lift.

The cassette's advantage is distribution. Conditioned air leaves the panel along four sides and is drawn back through the center, which evens out temperature across a room better than a single wall jet and avoids throwing air directly at a seat. In a room with a high ceiling this matters; so does the fact that the cassette takes no wall space in a room where every wall is already doing something else. Each cassette has its own filter and its own setpoint, and the panel can be released for service without disturbing the ceiling.

The cost is architectural. A cassette needs a ceiling void of roughly ten inches, a route to the outside for the line set, and somewhere for condensate to go — often a small lift pump, because a ceiling has no gravity fall to an exterior wall. The panel stays visible, so its position belongs in the ceiling drawing rather than in a decision made on site. Where those conditions exist, this is the quietest-looking installation in the collection.

Three indoor units on one condenser let a floor of similar rooms run on one outdoor unit with separate controls. The inverter compressor follows the combined load, and any room can be switched off without disturbing the others. A single condenser keeps the plant room or the wall simpler than three separate systems.
