Loop Lounge Chair

The shell is the whole chair. It is molded in one piece, with a seat that dips below the hip line and a back that returns to the shoulders without a seam or a bracket. The thickness is not uniform: it stiffens where the shell meets the base and thins where the body needs give, which is why the chair feels compliant without a cushion. A small drain sits at the lowest part of the seat so rainwater leaves instead of collecting under a sitter. The seat is wide enough to sit sideways in and deep enough to curl into, which is a harder test than either dimension suggests.

The base is a separate steel frame, powder-coated and bolted at four points. That division is practical: steel carries the load and takes the wear on a terrace, while the plastic shell stays light enough for one person to move. A high proportion of the plastic is post-consumer recycled, and the material can be recycled again when the chair finally leaves service. The steel is finished to the same standard as the shell, because the base is visible from the back and the side.

The colors are warm and muted by design, so the chair can sit in a room without announcing itself. Indoors it reads as sculpture; outdoors it reads as something that will still be outside next year.
